What we believe
God addresses all people in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.
Jesus Christ is Lord of All.
The Holy Spirit empowers us to proclaim the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ to strengthen one another, care for the poor, and to challenge what hurts God’s world.
Therefore, God’s Gospel is good news for this world.
As an evangelical church, aligned with historic Anglican doctrine we aim to adhere to the teaching of the Bible as our supreme authority in matters of faith and life, that we believe are helpfully expressed in the historic formularies of the Church of England.
These foundations are the 39 Articles of Faith, The Book of Common Prayer and the Ordination Service.
Are a Church of England church, we are governed by the 39 articles, of which Article 6 helpfully summarises our ethos:
Holy Scripture contains all things necessary for salvation. Consequently whatever is not read in Scripture nor can be proved from Scripture cannot be demanded from any person to believe it as an article of the faith. Nor is any such thing to be thought necessary or required for salvation. By holy Scripture is meant those canonical books of the Old and New Testaments whose authority has never been doubted within the church.
We respect those who hold different opinions to ourselves in their intention to understand and apply what the Bible teaches.
Church Leadership
The Holy Trinity Parochial Church Council (often referred to as the PCC) remains united in its gratitude to God for the establishment in 2008 of the Global Anglican Futures Conference (GAFCON) and its sacrificial defence of biblical orthodoxy in doctrine and practice. The PCC reviews and re-adopts the Jerusalem Statement and Declaration 2008, each year.
Women and men complement each other
We believe in the complementary serving of women and men, of whatever race or colour, in our absolute equality of value before God. In 2016 and every 5 years following, the PCC of this parish has passed a resolution under the House of Bishop's Declaration on the Ministry of Bishops and Priests to reflect our convictions on the distinctive ministries of men and women.
The PCC is pleased to sign the Doctrinal Basis of Faith of the Sussex Gospel Partnership (SGP), enjoying fellowship with many protestant denominations. We are active member of ReNew and its growth and encouragement of reformed evangelical churches across the UK.
